An abundance of articles fill the online ether and print medium detailing the most trivial actions of today’s “most successful.” Popular culture insinuates the insidious idea that success emanates from infamy or fame. I for one believe the inverse: that societally lauded symbols of success—fame and the accompanying wealth—are symptomatic to success, which I attribute to the masterly performance of one’s craft. Such is my definition of success—in my personal opinion—one that is deserving of respect and the affirmation it receives.

The dream serves a vital springboard to achieving success. As the dreamer’s initial brush against his field of passion resonates throughout his core, the dream unfurls in his mind, tantalising; the dreamer yearns to relive and revive that feeling of satisfaction throughout the days of his life. Hence the dream centres the dreamer, imbuing his life with direction. The dreamer concentrates all his efforts towards the materialisation of the dream, and is galvanised into taking the necessary steps towards attaining success.

According to The Wisdom of OZ, Walt Disney was fired from Kansas City Star newspaper because they felt he was not “creative enough.” The first animation studio Disney filed for bankruptcy. Yet, through sheer conviction, Disney went on open the Disney Brother’s studio, eventually creating Mickey Mouse and Disneyland and winning 22 Academy Awards.
Oprah Winfrey as well, had found herself fired from her Reporter job early on in her career due to the claim that she was “unfit for TV.” She preserved, booking the then failing AM Chicago talk show; upon her appearance the talk show went global, attracting millions of viewers. She then went on to set up her own television network.

It is curious to note how such success stories bespeak of a quintessential quality that all dreamers possess: an unfaltering mettle; an unwavering belief in the self; the distinct ability to push through adversity. It is only the when in the presence of a complementary dream, matching the temperament of the dreamer, can the dreamer be incited to manifest such qualities—no flippant dream can achieve such results—the fickle dreams of children are whisked away with the faintest breeze. The contrary holds true: should the achievement of the dream be an imperative, the dreamer will be incited to will hone/perform his craft for the manifestation of the dream despite impoverished circumstances, rejection and setbacks. It is vital that the dream be sufficiently potent, capable of inciting the relentless pursuit of the dreamer.
